Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-Colored Fillings

What is tooth decay?

Tooth decay can come from inadequate oral hygiene techniques, chronic diseases, poor diet, and other factors. Some individuals are more prone to having tooth decay due to genetics. If a woman doesn’t consume a proper diet during a pregnancy, then an infant might have unhealthy tooth buds. Tooth decay is caused by the existence of bacteria in your mouth, which breaks down the tooth enamel and causes cavities. Most cavities occur on the biting surface of the teeth where food particles collect, however, it is possible to have a cavity located below the gums or on the other surfaces of the teeth.

What is a tooth-colored filling?

At Norton Family Dental in Columbus, Ohio, we know that you want to have attractive, healthy teeth that will create a beautiful smile. By visiting our dental facility every six months, you can have your teeth examined and cleaned. With the removal of plaque by a dental professional, you are less likely to have tooth decay that requires a filling.

However, if you do need to have cavities filled, we recommend our tooth-colored fillings. In the past, metal fillings were commonly used, which stand out on your teeth and are very noticeable when you speak or smile. We using color-matching composite resin to match your exact tooth shade and ensure that your filling will be undetectable. We can even replace old metal fillings with these new ones as well!

What is the process like?

The application of a filling requires removing the bacteria from the decayed tooth, and our dentist may need to remove some of the damaged enamel from the cavity. You will receive anesthesia to reduce any discomfort, and your dentist will apply your tooth-colored filling to your affected tooth. Then, he or she will smooth and polish the composite resins so your new filling looks and feels natural. To schedule your appointment contact us online or give us a call at 614-350-3823  today.
